Land O’Lakes Senior Swine Nutritionist Emily Otto-Tice says the prevention of African Swine Fever is a major focus. “With the initial African Swine Fever concerns, a lot of producers have done a tremendous job working with veterinarians and being more vigilant with the biosecurity on farms. They’re keeping health challenges at bay, because they’re trying to keep foreign animal diseases out of the United States.” Research is being done to improve swine health through diet. “We have products to help promote healthy guts in animals. We are also looking at the beneficial microorganisms live inside the guts of pigs and other livestock species.”
