Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar told the Minnesota Farmers Union lawmakers are trying to get more COVID-19 relief passed by the end of the year. “Right now, COVID is spiking not just in the cities, but in rural areas, too. It’s not just about health, but also the economy. There were good things included in the CARES Act, but we need to continue to beef that up,” said Klobuchar. “The initial farmer relief program we had excluded several classes of wheat, independent turkey growers and biofuel processors. Much like the trade assistance, much of this assistance went to larger farms. That’s why we’re trying to work off the House-passed HEROES Act so we can get a stronger bill for farmers.” Klobuchar also said work is being done on getting a new ag secretary in place for the Biden administration, but did not elaborate.
