California Governor Gavin Newsom’s executive order to ban the sale of all gas-powered vehicles by 2035 has implications for the entire U.S. economy. Minnesota Auto Dealers Association President Scott Lambert says 14 states have given the California Air Resources Board the authority to regulate emissions. “Minnesota is trying to be the 15th state and if we adopt those rules it means we have to accept them absolutely.” MADA is building a coalition to contest the California mandate. “We have a lot of support in the agricultural community; they understand how bad it would be for ethanol and how bad it would be for the Minnesota economy.” With this election cycle, 115 candidates for the Minnesota legislature have signed a pledge opposing efforts to give regulatory control to another state.
