The talk about trade and tariffs has evolved into conversations about rhetoric and retaliation. Montgomery, Minnesota pork producer Karen Richter participated in the World Meat Congress in Dallas and says the possible downturn in pork exports is a worry. “Trade is so important to me and my family as pork producers. Going from record-setting exports last year and $53.47 in value of every hog going out the door directly tied to exports, it is a big concern.” With the tariffs on steel and aluminum, Mexico indicates it will retaliate with tariffs on U.S. pork. Trade will be a topic in the week ahead at World Pork Expo.
RRFN’s coverage of World Pork Expo is sponsored, in part, by the Minnesota Pork Board.
