St. Thomas, North Dakota farmer Allen Tucker says planting is a few days behind schedule, but he has about two-thirds of the potato crop planted. “The potatoes are going in nicely. We’ve had some seed bed issues with excess moisture, churning up some lumps. We’ll likely have to deal with that in the fall,” says Tucker. “I would say about 90 percent of the acreage is doing well and they’ll likely harvest just fine, but there will be spots in some fields that will make a mess. For potatoes, when you make a mess in the spring, it hangs around until fall.”
