Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue says he is working with South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem and Smithfield Foods to reopen the Sioux Falls pork plant. Noem says employee health and keeping families fed are a priority. “We do have increased cases, but we do believe when this plant gets up and running it will be a perfectly safe environment for these employees,” says Noem. “There may be other things to mitigate outside of the plant, but inside the plant, we’re making sure things are running and employees are in a position they have no concerns contracting the virus.” The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will do a walk through of the Sioux Falls plant on Thursday with state and local officials. “They’ll give us a checklist of things that need to be accomplished before it can come up to full production.”
