The final day of the National Farmers Union Convention was filled with policy discussions. “It’s such a learning experience,” said Sheila Rude, a farmer and delegate from Tolna, North Dakota. “You have no clue until you get here the discussions you’ll have on topics you wouldn’t even think about.” For delegates, those discussions included basis, dairy and honeybees. “We’re trying to figure out if we can get basis under control,” said Jeff Kippley, a delegate and farmer from Aberdeen, South Dakota. “We also want to address concerns like bringing the next generation to the farm and farm income. Farmers do a lot of work to lose money at the end of the year.”
