The Quentin Burdick Center for Cooperatives is hosting a cooperative leadership training later this month. The training helps co-op leaders develop core skills and advanced management techniques. Quentin Burdick Center for Cooperatives Director Frayne Olson says there will be a wide range of speakers at the training. “I’ll be covering some governance issues and conflict resolution issues. We’ll also hear from others on legal, financial performance, audits and some of the roles and responsibilities for farmer board members.” Olson says once farmers are elected to serve on a cooperative board, their roles and responsibilities change. “Whether it’s a farm supply or grain cooperative, farmers need to ask different questions and evaluate performance in a different way. To step into that kind of role and wear a different hat can be overwhelming.” The training will take place on Tuesday, February 25 in Grand Forks and Thursday, February 27 in Bismarck.
