In a lawsuit that links the use of Roundup to cancer, the federal judge has cut the punitive damages. The jury awarded the California man $80 million in punitive damages, but the judge dropped that down to $20 million. The judge said Monsanto deserves to be punished, but the punitive damages award went beyond constitutional limits. Bayer, which now owns Monsanto, called this “a step in the right direction,” but still plans to appeal this case.
