In its much anticipated acreage report, the U.S. Department of Agriculture raised its estimate of the corn planted area three percent from one year ago to 91.7 million acres. That’s higher than the average trade guess of 87 million acres. The soybean planted area is estimated at 80 million acres, down ten percent from one year ago and lower than trade expectations of 84 million acres. The all-wheat planted area is estimated at 45.6 million acres, down five percent from 2018. According to the USDA, this is the lowest all-wheat planted area on record since 1919.
