A group of farmers representing the Minnesota soybean growers were on Capitol Hill this past week advocating for biodiesel. One ask is the extension of the biodiesel tax credit. Brewster, Minnesota farmer Ron Obermoller says while lawmakers are on the same page as farmers, there is no forward movement. “At some point we need some certainty for the industry. I’m thankful for all the behind-the-scenes work they do in D.C., but it’s very frustrating.” Obermoller says it’s important to understand biodiesel’s impact. The fuel consumes approximately one-third of the soybean oil produced in the U.S. “It’s makes soybean meal cheaper, puts more money back on farms and uses 10 to 15 percent of the greases from livestock. If you’re in agriculture, it’s a good thing for you.”
