USDA is seeking veterinarians to join its food safety and inspection team. Acting Deputy Undersecretary for Food Safety Carmen Rottenberg says the Department has a hard time finding veterinarians who specialize in animal husbandry, or food-producing animals. Right now, there are approximately 100 vacancies. “Many veterinarians go to school to do small animal practice. There are schools that large programs for animal husbandry, and we want those schools to know we’re a large employer.” USDA held a veterinary recruitment event in St. Paul, Minnesota April 24-26.
