High prices are influencing fall fertilizer applications and planting decisions for 2027. Rock and Roll Agronomy owner Jason Hanson is seeing some farmers reducing fertilizer rates to manage expenses. Market prices are also influencing which crops farmers may plant next spring, particularly as they compare potential returns. “Are you gonna plant more beans? Are you gonna plant more corn? How about your wheat acres? There’s very little excitement around wheat,” Hanson said. “If I could have more barley contracts, I’d see more barley.” Hanson says profitability will be a major consideration as farmers finalize their crop plans.
