Tuesday’s election results are setting the stage for significant changes in Washington’s agricultural leadership. “We could have as many as 150 or more new members of the House and Senate coming in in January,” said Randy Russell, president/CEO, The Russell Group. “That’s a huge turnover for both members and staff.” At least 16 members of the House Agriculture Committee and six members of the Senate Agriculture Committee will not return. The turnover could also influence the Democratic negotiations over the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. “If we’re going to get a farm bill, I think they’ll get their two-year extension on that provision.”
