Minnesota Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan will succeed retiring Senator Tina Smith in the U.S. Senate after defeating Republican Michelle Tafoya. Flanagan won with 54 percent of the vote compared to Tafoya’s 43 percent. “I can’t quite believe that I am standing here as your next United States Senator,” Flanagan said during her acceptance speech. Flanagan also outlined priorities for her time in Washington, including shutting down Immigration and Customs Enforcement and delivering right to repair for farmers.
