Despite hot, dry conditions during the growing season, Minn-Dak Farmers Cooperative Agronomist Paul Moffet says the sugarbeet campaign has gone well. “The tonnage that we’re bringing in is better than expected with the droughty conditions that we’ve had,” Moffet said. “It’s still not going to be record-breaking by any means. It’s going to be kind of in those mid-20s.” Sugar content is approaching 18 percent. Warm weather complicated harvest. Minn-Dak was shutting down around noon and resuming harvest between 8 and 9 p.m. to keep beet temperatures within acceptable storage conditions. “That’s just to ensure that the beets are put into the piles with the storageability in mind.”
