North Dakota Senator Kevin Cramer is pressing for changes to federal wetland easement rules affecting farmers. Cramer hosted U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Director Brian Nesvik on a tour of farmland in Dickey County to see the importance of the 2024 rule governing wetland easements. Cramer says the rule allows the federal government to claim control over private farmland beyond existing easement boundaries. Cramer also raised concerns about drainage restrictions, salt damage, and uncertainty over where federal authority ends. Cramer is holding up several Trump administration nominees until the issue is resolved. He says farmers are prepared to take legal action if the agency fails to address their concerns.
