USDA NIFA Acting Division Director of Youth and 4-H Dr. Martha Ray Sartor said local programs are designed around the needs of individual communities. “4-H remains grounded in agriculture,” Sartor said. “That’s why the National 4-H headquarters is at USDA and why USDA NIFA partners with Cooperative Extension.” Sartor said some local programs remain heavily focused on agriculture while others have expanded into areas such as STEM. That ability to evolve has helped 4-H remain relevant for generations. The program will celebrate its 125th anniversary next year.
