National 4-H Week celebrates a program that continues to develop the next generation of leaders. USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture Director Jaye Hamby said 4-H members gives him hope about the future. “Every time I visit a land grant university, I personally make it a point to meet and visit with local 4-H’ers, and they never fail to impress,” Hamby said. “Their maturity, leadership, sense of purpose, honestly, they give me real confidence in our nation’s future.” NIFA provides national leadership for 4-H through the Cooperative Extension System. For Hamby, that role has a personal connection. “I technically get to serve as head clover for National 4-H,” Hamby said. “That’s certainly a full-circle journey for me from the standpoint of having been a 4-H’er myself.”
