After weeks of concern about whether North Dakota’s dry edible bean crop would make it out of the field, harvest has taken a major step forward. Johnstown Bean Company General Manager Dylan Karley said favorable weather has dramatically changed the outlook. “If we talked two weeks ago, everybody had a pretty bleak outlook on even the realistic possibility of getting all the beans out of the field,” Karley said. “Now we’ve had an absolutely beautiful week for edible bean harvest right here at the beginning of October.” The smaller crop should boost the edible bean market. “We’re going to see really, really strong prices for the growers that were able to get a crop.”
