Eighty percent of the cattle producers surveyed for the annual Farm Journal State of the Beef Industry Report experienced drought in the past two years. From that group, half of the respondents said they reduced the size of their breeding herd. Seventy-seven percent of those surveyed said they are optimistic about the future and 55 percent plan to grow their herd over the next five years. For this report, Farm Journal surveyed over 350 beef producers.
