Grain markets are increasingly reacting to headlines rather than changes in underlying fundamentals. Martinson Ag Risk Management President Randy Martinson said that makes it important for farmers to separate meaningful developments from market noise. “See what’s relevant and what really means something to the market,” said Martinson. “With the wheat market, with Ukraine and Russia, we’re trading headlines on that. One day we’re up 30 cents, the next day we’re down 30 cents and what changed from day to day? Nothing.” Martinson said Russia and Ukraine are sitting on significant wheat stocks that eventually need to move into the export market. Martinson was part of Wednesday’s Red River Farm Network Market Outlook Panel at the Big Iron Farm Show.
