Volatility remains a major part of the grain market, but Allison Thompaon, The Money Farm, says farmers should avoid letting headlines dictate their marketing decisions. During Tuesday’s RRFN Market Outlook Forum at the Big Iron Farm Show, Thompson said producers still have tools available even if they are uncertain about production or future price direction. “I just don’t want guys to panic. There’s so many ways and strategies to still capitalize on where prices are. (Use) puts if you don’t know where your production is. If you’re comfortable with where you are sales-wise and you think markets are still going to go up, get some calls in place.” The volatility is not over. Thompson said the uncertainty puts an increased focus on having a risk management plan in place.
