Cass County, North Dakota, is experiencing severe to extreme drought conditions driven by an unusual summer flash drought. The RRFN Crop Tour wrapped up in an area where they are eight inches below the average rainfall total and crops are fried. “We might not be quite at the physiological maturity, but the amount of heat that we had pushed that corn,” said Eric Lagge, field agronomist, Pioneer. “The hybrid that I have in my hand here is actually at black layer, but about 100 GDUs off of what physiological maturity would be if you look in a seed catalog.’ Even with the dry conditions, Lagge said Northern Corn Rootworm is moving north.
