A federal judge is allowing the USDA to proceed with a major reorganization for now. The plan would move some USDA operations out of Washington, D.C., to five regional hubs and relocate about 2,500 employees. Unions and nonprofit groups sought to add the USDA reorganization to an existing lawsuit involving federal workforce cuts. The judge rejected that request, saying the USDA issues are different from the broader case. The ruling does not end the legal challenge. The groups can file a separate lawsuit specifically targeting the USDA reorganization.
