The dry conditions have made digging difficult for the sugarbeet pre-pile harvest. At Stephen, Minnesota, Craig Halfmann said the beets are smaller than he’d like. “For what we’ve been through, the crop is not that bad,” Halfmann told RRFN. “The sugar (content) is decent, so you can’t complain.” The corn and soybean harvest will likely begin in late September, depending on weather and frost. “The corn is maturing probably a little quicker than we’d like because it’s that dang dry.”
