Adjusted for inflation, second-quarter farmland values in the Central Cornbelt declined 3.7 percent from a year ago. That’s the largest decline in ten years. Most of the lenders surveyed by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago expect values to remain steady in the third quarter. Those same lenders report that farmers are having problems repaying loans and loan demand is unusually high.
