South Dakota Farm Bureau is beginning its annual grassroots policy process. Wessington Springs farmer and District 7 State Director Roger Hainy says policy development starts at the county level. “That’s where those ideas and thoughts come from, and they just work up through the process.” Property taxes are among the issues receiving attention as farmers develop policy priorities. Property tax issues, trying to lessen the blow to agriculture, it’s one of the main things we’ve been working on,” Hainy said. “You just need to be involved if you’re a farmer and farmer issues, and I think Farm Bureau is the avenue to do that.” RRFN interviewed Hainy at Dakotafest in Mitchell, South Dakota
