Farmers will once again have the option to purchase additional prevented planting coverage. Risk Management Agency Administrator Pat Swanson says the additional five percent coverage is returning after farmers asked for the option to be restored. “We had a lot of feedback after November 30th last year when the Prevent Plant buy-up was removed from the policies,” said Swanson. “We listened to the feedback.”The option begins with crops tied to the August 31 filing date for the 2027 crop year. Swanson encourages farmers to work with their crop insurance agent to determine whether the additional coverage makes sense for their operation.
