Brazil’s second-crop corn harvest is wrapping up, with CONAB raising its production estimate. “Up in Mato Grosso, which is the number one state, they’re completely done harvesting,” said Soybean and Corn Advisor President Michael Cordonnier. Conditions are different farther south. “It’s been slow harvesting in the southern areas,” he said. “The state of Paraná and southern Mato Grosso do Sul have been very wet.” Cordonnier says delayed soybean planting could have bigger implications for second-crop corn. “If you delay the soybean planting in central Brazil, then automatically you delay the second-crop corn planting and that is a big concern.”
