Peterson is expanding specialty crop opportunities across the Upper Midwest through a new partnership with HC International. Peterson President Carl Peterson says the agreement will connect seed development with growing demand for identity-preserved, organic, non-GM and other specialty crops. “We’re seeing additional and continued increase in opportunities for specialties,” Peterson said. Some specialty soybean varieties can provide growers with access to premium markets, although they require different management. Peterson says the partnership will help connect North Dakota and Minnesota growers with customers looking for something different from traditional commodity crops. “The American grain industry is super efficient at producing mass quantities of undifferentiated commodities like corn, soybeans, and wheat. That provides an opportunity for growers who are willing to fill those mixed markets for people who want something just a little bit different.”
