Russia’s latest attack on the Ukrainian port of Odesa is adding more pressure to an already strained grain export system. Ukrainian officials say the strike damaged port facilities during a weekend barrage of missiles and drones, following weeks of attacks that have reduced commercial shipping through the Black Sea. Ukraine is trying to reroute grain through rail lines, roads and Danube River ports, but those alternatives can handle only about half the volume normally shipped through Odesa.
