South Dakota native Luke Lindberg has a full year under his belt as the USDA undersecretary for trade and foreign agricultural affairs. His goal has been to turn market access into market share. Lindberg said that’s happening. “The trade deficit is down 61 percent from where it was last year,” said Lindberg. “We’ve gone out with farmers and ranchers, building buyer-seller relationships, making sure they have the opportunity to promote and sell their products fairly and effectively, and then we usually win.” The U.S. has a $30 billion deal with China for the next three years. “That gives us a solid China market to depend on, but we are also continuing to diversify while doing that.” Listen to the RRFN interview with Lindberg.
