Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins traveled to Douglas, Arizona, ahead of the August 24 reopening of the port of entry for Mexican cattle imports. During the visit, Rollins announced a $25 million investment in a new sterile fly production facility in Arizona to strengthen the nation’s defenses against New World screwworm. Rollins said protecting U.S. livestock remains USDA’s top priority. “This is existential,” she said. “USDA has implemented the most rigorous livestock inspection protocols in history, giving us confidence that we can safely resume this beef trade while protecting American farmers and ranchers.”
