South Dakota cattle producers dealing with livestock losses from the recent heat are being encouraged to prepare before visiting the Farm Service Agency. SDSU Extension Program Director and Livestock Business Management Field Specialist Heather Gessner said having complete records can make the claims process much smoother. “Have the numbers of cattle verified and ensure ownership records are in order before filing paperwork with the FSA,” said Gessner. “If you’re feeding for somebody else, the owner will have to do the paperwork with FSA; the feedlot can’t do it in those situations.”
