WinField United showcased crop research during its Answer Plot Tour near Washburn, North Dakota. CROPLAN Seed Portfolio Manager Gary Nowaczyk said the cooperative ownership structure distinguishes the brand. “The farmer probably gets hit 15 times a day on seed and everybody’s got the best stuff at the best price. One thing that we have that I think separates us from anybody else is the cooperative system owns this brand. The farmers that are part of the co-op own this brand.” Nowaczyk said the Northern Plains is unique because of its crop diversity and the opportunity to evaluate genetics from around the world. “At this Answer Plot, we’re sorting out germplasm and genetics from all over the world to see how they adapt in the United States.” Nowaczyk cited sunflower genetics that may not work in Hungary and Poland can be a superstar in the Northern Plains. “We’re sorting out what the farmers of the Dakotas need,” he said.
