From the organization’s summer conference in Detroit, National Potato Council CEO Kam Quarles said lawmakers are focused on additional aid, the farm bill and trade issues like the upcoming USMCA review. Quarles said funding must be delivered through USDA programs that producers can actually use. “It’s not enough to allocate the money but then create a bunch of eligibility hurdles which prevent folks from accessing those dollars.” Quarles added meaningful, accessible relief is critical for family farms facing ongoing financial challenges.
