A study conducted for the minority staff of the congressional joint economic committee found diesel fuel prices added $1.4 billion to the cost of planting this year’s crop. The report places most of the blame on the U.S. conflict with Iran and the impact on fuel prices. Illinois and Iowa account for most of that increase. The report ranks Minnesota third; North Dakota fifth and South Dakota eighth in the level of increased diesel costs during planting.
