Buffalo, North Dakota, farmer Randy Melvin has received less than four inches of rain since May 1, but he’s encouraged by the condition of this year’s crop. “This crop is looking way better than it should for the amount of rain we’ve had,” Melvin said. “I’m still cautiously optimistic about the potential.” While a timely rain would be welcome, Melvin said he would rather avoid a repeat of last year’s five-to-eight-inch August rainfall.
