The U.S. Department of Agriculture will restore the five-percent prevented planting buy-up option under the Federal Crop Insurance Program. During a Senate Appropriations Committee hearing, Senate Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee Chairman John Hoven thanked Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins for supporting the effort. Hoven said the coverage is “critically important.” The restored option covered more than 67 million acres nationwide last year, including roughly 10 million acres in North Dakota. Hoeven said the additional protection will help farmers better manage weather-related crop losses.
