Truckloads of Canadian weaner and feeder pigs are a common sight on I-29 and that should continue. President Trump’s new 50 percent tariffs on $20 billion in Canadian products does not include the 7 million head of pigs shipped annual to the United States. The duties may apply to these pigs in the future, but remain duty-free for now. Most of those pigs are finished in southern Minnesota and Iowa.
