Supplies of hard red winter wheat are tightening dramatically following steep production losses across the Southern Plains. Kansas Wheat CEO Justin Gilpin says production has fallen more than 40 percent in Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. Gilpin said total U.S. hard red winter wheat production has dropped below 500 million bushels for the first time since the 1970s. “The total U.S. wheat production is going to be the lowest in nearly 60 years,” he said. “The market and the world are starting to pay attention to that.’
