R-CALF USA is criticizing the Trump administration’s decision to exempt Brazilian beef from the new 25 percent U.S. tariff. CEO Bill Bullard said the exemption gives Brazilian beef packers an unfair advantage. Bullard renewed the organization’s call for Mandatory Country of Origin Labeling, saying consumers should have “the ability to distinguish between imported and U.S. produced beef.” He also argued the tariff exemption will not lower beef prices for consumers because of continued concentration within the U.S. beef packing sector.
