Auctioneers from seven states gathered this past week in Mitchell, South Dakota, for the Palace City Livestock Auctioneering Competition. Mitchell Livestock Market owner Jared Herman said the event showcased outstanding talent and strong cattle demand. “We had a lot of really talented individuals, and it was tough to pick the top five,” said Herman. “We also had a really good offering of cows, the market was stout and we had a lot of extra buyers.” Herman said the competition highlights the livestock marketing profession while giving producers and buyers an enjoyable event. The contest was won by Austin Schaben, a third-generation auctioneer from southwest Iowa.
