According to the NDSU Crop and Pest Report, significant armyworm damage has been seen in wheat in central parts of the state. Benson, Pierce and Rolette counties have had as much as 90 percent defoliation. The economic threshold for treatment is four-to-five armyworm larvae per square foot. Treatment is recommended if the armyworms are three-quarters to one-and-a-quarter inches long or if leaf feeding is evident. NDSU also said wheat midge flights probably peaked this past week with northwest North Dakota being the hot spot.
