While crop conditions have improved across the Northern Plains, uncertainty remains in the wheat market. North Dakota Wheat Commission Executive Director Jim Peterson said weather issues in Canada could become a market-moving factor. “They had a late planting season, especially in the more central and northern parts of their provinces; they’ve had a lot of recent rain and some field flooding. The concerns there are a late harvest as well as the quality of the crop with that much rain.” Peterson said U.S. wheat remains competitively priced and demand should remain strong if growers produce high-quality grain. “If we can pull off our crop with decent protein, don’t have significant disease issues, have a good harvest period and have the quality to market, the demand will be there.”
