Jason Hanson, who leads Rock and Roll Agronomy, says parts of North Dakota’s Ramsey County suffered significant hail damage in the late June storm. “There’s a big stretch of hail out by Leeds. It hailed for 45 minutes,” said Hanson. “You got wheat fields that are just shredded, the field is black now.; corn that was 24 inches tall, now it’s an eight-inch stick.” Rainfall totals were staggering, with some unofficial reports exceeding seven inches. “There went the margin for the year, between the drowned out and now we’ll have the denitrification, we’ll have low protein crops and now we’ve got to spray to save what we have left because of white mold on canola and then head scab on wheat and barley.”
