As dry conditions expand across western North Dakota, livestock producers are being encouraged to closely monitor herd health. Dr. Christina Burgard of Heart of Dakota Vet Clinic in Tappen said these conditions can create challenges ranging from poor water quality to respiratory issues. Bergard recommends ranchers routinely check water sources for blue-green algae, maintain vaccination programs, and monitor cattle for signs of pinkeye. The concerns come as drought conditions continue to spread across the state, increasing the risk of dust pneumonia and other health issues in grazing cattle.
