Despite tight farm margins, sugarbeet grower Carson Klosterman says producers should avoid cutting corners on crop inputs. “If you plan for failure, that’s what you’re going to have,” said Klosterman. “Even though things may look a little bleak, cutting inputs here and there can cost us significantly at the end of the season. We have to plan for success every year.” Klosterman said that philosophy also applies to disease management as fungicide season begins. “Good coverage is a must, and we need to stay on top of disease pressure because we get paid on sugar and we want to deliver sugar.” He said a disciplined fungicide program will be essential to protecting both yield and sugar content this year.
