Persistent winds and frequent precipitation are making it difficult for growers to keep up with herbicide applications. Near Minot, farmer Chad Rubbelke said timely rainfall has helped crops recover from a dry spring, but lingering damage from a windstorm and delayed emergence created difficult replant decisions. “We did about 250 acres worth of replant, but we could have warranted more,” said Rubbelke. “It got late on us and nothing was out of the ground until real late because of the dry conditions we were facing this spring.” The number of spray opportunities have been limited. “They’re already out of hand; you have weeds that are two feet tall and covering fields right now.”
